Old but Gold: The Surgeon’s Affair to Manage Inguinal Hernia

Purpose: Inguinal hernia repair is a common surgical procedure. It was widely reported worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. To manage lack of anesthesiologists, we have introduced new protocol to inguinal repair. Methods: This result strong collaboration between surgeons and anesthesiologists. based on EHS recommendations well-described percutaneous ilioinguinal–iliohypogastric genitofemoral nerves block. Results: More than 400 patients been treated at our institution. The application has led sensible reduction in initially planned spinal anesthesia. complications traditionally related anesthesia not 80% patients. Only three required infusion atropine or flumazenil without need involve anesthesiologist. Conclusion: seems promising. Preliminary results shown safety efficacy combination this kind with wound protector adequate postoperative pain control can lead reproducible system avoiding strictly necessary presence an changes that occurred healthcare recent years should be opportunities for improvement resources results.
